Joanne ("Joan") Virginia Seymour, 93, passed away peacefully April 8, 2024, surrounded by her adoring family.
Joan was born March 14, 1931, in Belding, Michigan, to Walter and Pauline (nee Braford) Jones. She and her older sister, Paula, grew up in Lake Worth, Florida, but kept ties to Michigan visiting relatives each summer. Like her father and sister, Joan chose to attend the University of Michigan. She received a piano scholarship and her love for music continued throughout her life.
She met John Richard Seymour ("Dick") while skiing with friends at Boyne Mountain. They were married in 1954 and settled down in Grosse Pointe, where they raised two daughters.
Joan filled her days with many cherished hobbies, including playing the piano, golfing (where she had two hole in ones), her bridge club, and refinishing old furniture. Joan was also a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and took great pride in passing along her family's history to her daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She and Dick loved to travel, with England being one of her favorite destinations (especially for antique hunting).
Joan was predeceased by her husband, Dick, in 1999, and her daughter, Elizabeth ("Lisa") Seymour Shook (Mark), in 2016. She is survived by her devoted daughter Susan (Michael) Solner of Birmingham. She was a loving Nana to her four grandchildren, Michael (Mallory) Solner, Katherine (James) Embree, Elizabeth Shook and Sara Shook, as well as her three great-grandchildren, Olivia Solner, Will Solner, and Ava Embree.
A celebration of life will be held in the summer for relatives. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations appreciated to Ss. Peter and Paul Jesuit Church, Pope Francis Center, or Stand up to Cancer.
