Joann G. Childers

Joann Childers, 84 of Frontenac, formerly of Girard passed away at 4:20 a.m., Thursday, September 4, 2025 at the Medicalodge of Frontenac.

Joann was born June 21, 1941 in Bentonville, Arkansas a daughter of Lee Roy and Mary E. (Kerns) Pitkin.

She attended school in Girard and graduated from the Girard High School. She also received her bachelor's degree in education from Pittsburg State University.

Joann taught Kindergarten in Girard, after retirement she help her mother and daughter at the Hiway Inn restaurant in Girard.

On April 18, 1966 Joann was united in marriage to Gerald Whiteman in Miami, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on June 8,1975. On December 17, 1989 Joann was united in marriage to John Childers in Girard. He preceded her in death on July 31, 2009.

Joann is survived by one daughter, Rachel Rosenstiel, two sisters, Mary Ann Holloway, and Ethelyn Roberts.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral Services for Joann Childers will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 8, 2025 at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home of Girard with Pastor Rick Prideaux officiating, burial will follow in the Girard Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour before the service. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. Sunday.
