Joanne Arvanitis Obituary

Joanne Arvanitis

Joanne (Charney) Arvanitis passed away Monday, September 2, 2024. She was 85 years old. She was born February 1, 1939, in Kittanning, Pennsylvania. Her family moved to Toledo when she was a young girl, and she lived on Chase Street in Toledo, Ohio. Joanne graduated from Woodward High School and was a majorette for the band.

She married Theodore Arvanitis, July 8, 1962. They remained married for over 62 years, first residing on Michigan Street in North Toledo, eventually moving to Sylvania, Ohio. She and Ted had two children, Jami and Michael Arvanitis.

Throughout her life, Joanne had several jobs, her most notable though was as founder and co-owner of Theos Taverna with her husband Ted in downtown Toledo. She was responsible for the wonderful food there. She was able to bestow this talent for preparing some of the most delicious dishes to her daughter Jami.

Other than her two children, Jami and Michael, and husband Ted, she is survived by her sisters, Helen Charney and Roseanne Vogel. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Theodore, Amelia and Andrew Arvanitis and their mother, Cheryl Arvanitis. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Geraldine and John Charney; her brothers, John, and Ron Charney; and sister, Sally Albain.

A memorial service will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024, at Toledo Memorial Park's Chapel of Peace, 6382 Monroe St., Sylvania, OH.

Uncle Ted, Mike and Jami,

I'm so sorry to hear of Aunt Joanne's passing. She truly was a classy lady. I remember working at Theos way back in the summer of '84 and watching her work magic in the kitchen. Her work ethic and attention to detail was influential. Most importantly, it was the love she put into the food that kept everyone coming back.

Dear Ted, Michael, and Jami,
We are so sad to learn of Aunt Joanne´s passing. Our daughters grew up looking forward to spending time with Uncle Ted and Aunt Joanne. She always bought the cutest clothes for the girls and they never missed a birthday or Christmas. She was a kind, classy lady. Thanks for the memories,Joanne.
