Joanne Peros Sinerate
Of Dennis, formerly of Waltham, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday morning, October 17, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease at Meadow Green Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Waltham. She was 74 years old.
Born on February 20, 1951, in Cambridge, Joanne was the beloved daughter of the late Arthur Peros and Irene (Lazarides) Peros. She was raised in Waltham, where she spent most of her life and where she and her husband built their family together.
A graduate of Waltham High School, Joanne went on to earn her bachelor's degree in Theater Arts/Education from Brandeis University. Her life revolved around her family - her devoted husband, loving daughters, and cherished grandchildren - and her passion for the arts, dance, and theater. She was one of the original founders of Waltham Youth Theatre, an actor and choreographer for Reagle Players, and a lifelong member of Dance Educators of America.
Joanne carried the love of her Greek heritage throughout her life. Sundays she would sing alongside her sisters in the Taxiarchae church in Watertown where her father directed the choir. She shared her "Yiayia's" passion for cooking Greek favorites which were always part of her holiday table.
Joanne's creativity and imagination touched the lives of thousands through her lifelong dedication to dance. As a gifted teacher and instructor, she inspired countless students to find joy and self-expression through movement. She taught drama in the Waltham schools for several years before becoming the founder and proud owner of Creative Movement, her own dance studio.
When not in the studio, Joanne loved spending time with her family and friends. She had a gift for entertaining and hosting gatherings, enjoyed cooking, gardening, running and treasured her time at the beach in Dennis on Cape Cod.
Her family and friends can find comfort in the Book of Ecclesiastes where it is written: "There is a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance."
She is survived by the love of her life and soulmate, her husband of 50 years, John Sinerate; her devoted daughters Jesse E. (Sinerate) Bastarache and her husband Jake, Dana C. (Sinerate) Lewis and her husband Jeremy all of Waltham; her cherished grandchildren Lily, Abby, and Calvin; and her dear sisters Virginia "Ginny" Segalini of Waltham and Dennis, and Deborah "Deb" Finnell of Stow. In addition, she is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and numerous friends, who will all miss her dearly.
Family and Friends who wish pay their respects to Joanne and her family and gather to remember the love, laughter, and friendship she shared with so many others in her lifetime can do so in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM on FRIDAY October 24th from 3pm until 6pm. For those attending services the family would like everyone to know they are welcome to wear Creative Movement, old recital gear or their best JoJo Bandana in her honor.
