Joe Allen Aker
December 18, 1945 – June 7, 2025
Joe Allen Aker, 79, of Wendell, NC, passed away June 7, 2025. He was born December 18, 1945, in Allen County, Indiana, to the late Reuben Theodore Aker and Elsa Watson Aker.
Joe spent his life doing what he loved-working as a printer. Over the years, he started successful printing businesses in Virginia, North Carolina, and Alabama. He was known not only for his work ethic, but for the pride he took in doing things the right way.
Outside of work, Joe was happiest outdoors. He was a passionate hunter who enjoyed tracking whitetail deer, elk, and other big game. He was also a talented Master Knife Maker and a lifetime member of the Sir Walter Gun Club. Joe had a deep respect for tradition and craftsmanship.
More than anything, Joe was a man of faith. His life reflected his strong Christian values, and those who knew him were touched by his quiet strength, kindness, and integrity.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Lynda Ruth Aker; his sons, James Aker (Julie) of Zebulon, Jeffrey Aker (Lisa) of Maple Grove, Minnesota, and Jeremy Aker (Patty) of Raleigh; and his sister, Erma Aker of New Port Richey, Florida. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Joe is preceded in death by his siblings, Cleatus Aker, Lewis Aker, John Aker, Max Aker, and Mary Lord.
A memorial visitation will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, June 16, 2025, at Garner Church of Christ, 1364 Benson Rd, Garner, NC 27529, with a memorial service following at 2:00 pm.
Flowers are welcomed, or if you would prefer, please consider a donation to Garner Church of Christ, P.O. Box 1083, Garner, NC, 27529.

My heart goes out to Lynda, Jim , Jeff and Jeremy and their families. Joe was the sibling closest to my age , only 4 years older, and we had our share of angst growing up. But he also protected me in ways I will always be grateful for. I was so happy we got to see each other in the last few weeks and reminisce about old memories. He announced to everyone who came into his room. ; This is my sister Erma ; she came all the way from Tampa to see me! I was very touched. Like I´ve been telling the moon recently, I´ll miss my big brother.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I enjoyed getting to work with Joe. Jeff, my heart goes out to you. God's plan and timing, are his own, and one day we will all be made aware.

Jeff - I have worked with you for 20+ years and have heard a story or 100 about your Dad. You loved him, you honored him, you respected him. The news of your Dad making his final journey was heart-felt. Knowing that he was going to his forever home brings a time of reflection in our faith. He is made whole, no more tears and no more pain. That may not ease the grieving process now, but brings comfort in days to come.
