Joe Dean Conlon, affectionately known as Joe to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully with his loved ones at his bed side on September 3, 2024, in Springfield, MO. Born on March 28, 1951 in Fort Dodge, IA Joe's journey through life was marked by his dedication to family, and his country. He was a man whose presence was characterized by a quiet strength and a warm, loving heart.
Joe's early life was spent in the halls of Ozark High School, where he graduated before bravely serving his country as a Vietnam Army veteran. Upon returning home, Joe committed himself to a career in the tire industry, where he was known for his tireless work ethic and dedication, contributing 41 years of service before his well-deserved retirement.
Joe was a devoted husband, having shared 54 years of marriage with his beloved wife Paulette Conlon. Together, they built a family and a legacy of love that is carried on by their sons, Randy (Shannon) Conlon and Kenny (Amanda) Conlon, and a daughter, Christy (Cord) Wilson. Joe's family was the cornerstone of his life, and he took immense pride in his role as a father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his cherished parents, Duane and Eunice Conlon, and a very special grandson, Cord Wilson. His memory will be treasured and kept alive by his three granddaughters, Lydia, Faith, and Zoey, who brought immeasurable joy and light into his life.
A man of simple pleasures, Joe found solace in the tranquility of nature, with a fishing rod in hand and the promise of the catch to come. His weekends were spent by the water, casting lines and enjoying the serenity of his surroundings, regardless of the weather. Fishing was not just a hobby for Joe; it was his way of unwinding and reconnecting with the world around him. Joe was known for his love of coffee, which he preferred strong and black-a reflection of his straightforward, no-nonsense approach to life. His hands were rarely still, as he was always tinkering, fixing, and improving things around him. Joe's handiness was just one aspect of his selfless nature, as he was always ready to lend a hand to those in need. His life was a testament to the values he held dear-love, hard work, and selflessness.
Joe was a loyal friend, and a cherished member of his family. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him, especially his very special friend, Pat, who shared many treasured moments with him. Joe's legacy is one of unwavering commitment to the well-being of others, a legacy that is evident in the lives he touched and the memories he leaves behind. As we bid farewell to Joe Dean Conlon, we celebrate a life lived with purpose, a life filled with love, and a life that exemplified the very best of what it means to be a husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and friend.
It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Joe, but we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us. His memory will be cherished in the stories told by his family, in the laughter of his grandchildren, and in the quiet moments spent beside the water, where he found so much peace. Joe's journey on earth has concluded, but his story will be told for generations to come, a story of a life well-lived and a man dearly loved.
