Joseph "Joe" Evan Fishburne 72, of Shiloh passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at his home in Shiloh, GA with his family by his side.
Joe was born September 20, 1951 in Jacksonville, FL the son of the Later James Miller Fishburne and Mary Oliver Fishburne. He was a licensed barber having received his certification from the Columbus Barber School where he worked for many years. He later pursued working in the HVAC industry as an installer and technician. Joe will also be remembered by those who visited "The Soup Bowl" in Warm Springs for lunch. He was known for his tasty chicken and wild rice soup. He was a Baptist by faith with a big gracious heart. You could often find him on a Saturday window shopping for antiques in Plains, GA as he kept an eye out for Jimmy
Carter. Later he would have lunch at Mama's Kitchen a favorite of his. Joe enjoyed refinishing old furniture and was a perfectionist when doing so. He was an avid collector of Lionel Trains and rare coins. His favorite place to vacation was St. Augustine, FL he loved the history of the town as well as buggy rides, ghost tours and candy stores. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Amanda Fishburne Baker, siblings, infant brother James Miller Fishburne, Jr. step father James Ayers, sister-in-law Virginia Fishburne, brother-in-law James Holland, Ronnie Tindol, mother and father-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Donald Strong.
He is survived by his wife, Debra Fishburne who he married on May 21, 1973. He is also survived by his son, Joseph E. Fishburne, Jr. and granddaughter Madison Baker, siblings: Camara Fishburne Whitaker, Thomas Fishburne, Sherry McCoy Holland, nephews: Robinson (Samantha) Whitaker, Wesley (Claire) Fishburne, Warren (Kendra) Fishburne, Jacob (Stacey) McCoy, niece Ashley Thorne, sisters-in-law: Lisa (Ricky)Farrar, Mary (Paul) Hayes, Teri (Roy) Darnold, Cathy (Kelly) Nix, brother-in-law Stevie (Joyce) Strong six grand nephews and one grand niece.
Joe's family wants to thank you for all acts of kindness you have shown for their loss, they would like to also thank Empyrean Hospice for there wonderul care. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make donations to Cox Funeral Home for help with burial expenses.
Funeral services for Joe will be held 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at Pine Mountain Valley First Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church, one hour prior to the service.
