Joe Bailey NeSmith was born, at home, near Zephyr, TX on April 20, 1934 to Solomon and Alpha NeSmith. He graduated from Farmersville High School. After graduation, he served in the US Army from 1956 through 1962. He married Venita Webb, of Lavon, TX, in December 1958 – a marriage that lasted almost 67 years. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Joel and Patrick. He worked at Binks Manufacturing for 42 years prior to retirement. In addition, he also farmed and raised cattle with his father-in-law, Bruce Webb.
His interests included family, hunting and fishing, breaking and riding horses, and any task that included using his tractor. He was a faithful servant to Lavon Assembly of God church. He taught Sunday School, worked with the children's ministry, advised numerous pastors for over 50 years, and performed the role of deacon for 51 years. He also held the second longest continuous membership at the church.
Joe was preceded in death by his mother and father, 11 brothers and sisters, and numerous other relatives. He is survived by his wife, Venita, 2 sons and their spouses, 5 grandchildren, 7 great- grandchildren (and 2 more on the way), his sister Bertha, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations and memorial gifts may be sent to Lavon Assembly of God with a designation to missions.
A public time of visitation will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, September 22, 2025, at First Assembly of God Church, located at, 301 Main St, Lavon, TX 75166.
A funeral service to honor the life of Joe will follow at 1:00 PM, Monday, September 22, 2025, also at First Assembly of God Church in Lavon, with Rev. Sydney Brandon and Pastor Dany Hernandez officiating.
Interment will take place immediately after conclusion of the church service, around 2:30 PM, at Thompson Cemetery, located at, 7000 S State Hwy 78,
Nevada, TX 75173.
