Muncie - Joseph "Joe" Colter Wehr passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at his home in Muncie, Indiana at the age of 95 years.
Joe was born April 12, 1929, in Clear Creek Township, Huntington County, Indiana to John and Lela (Wysong) Wehr. He was the youngest son of ten children and the last remaining sibling.
Joe graduated from Jefferson Twp. High School in 1947. He was a retired school bus driver of 39 years and a lifelong farmer in Huntington County. In addition, he was a volunteer for the Mt. Etna Fire Department and was a life member of Mt. Etna Masonic Lodge #333. Upon his retirement, Joe and his wife sold their home and moved to Sierra Vista, AZ. While living in Arizona, Joe played on the Cochise County Senior Softball team 3 days a week and played a double header on Sundays. In December 2009, after enjoying Arizona life for 8 years, Joe and Brenda moved back to Indiana to be near family.
Preceded in death were the mother of his children, Joyce Smith/Wehr, brothers Lawrence Wehr (Mineva), Fred Wehr (Ruth), Guilford Wehr Sr. (Doris), Rolland Wehr, and sisters Evalyn O'Conner (Harry), Leola Booher (Charles), Mildred Crutchfield (Jim), Mae Kugler (Bill) and Louise Smith (Bill), and grandson, Fabian Wehr.
Survivors cherishing his memory are his wife, Brenda "Sue" Wehr, his six children Linda Wehr (Mark McCabe) of Champaign, IL, Colter Wehr (Cynthia) of Huntington, IN, Alan Wehr (Diana) of Bradenton, FL, Barry Wehr of Rogersville, TN, Danny Wehr (Karen) of Warren, IN, and Rodney Wehr (Nancy) of Ardmore, TN. And three stepchildren John Klefeker (Kelly) of Columbia City, IN, Stephanie Klefeker of Staplehurst, NE, and Jill Dickey (Benje) of Yorktown, IN. In addition, twenty-four grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Evelyn (Dolby) Wehr of Marion, IN also survive.
Family and friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 7901 W. Isanogel Road, on Thursday, December 26, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Services will be held at Corinth Church of Muncie, 3200 W. Co. Rd. 400 S., Muncie, IN 47302 on Friday, December 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with one-hour visitation prior to the service.
The burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Etna Masonic Lodge #333 or the Corinth Church of Muncie.
