John "Billy" William Akin, 77, of Roland, Oklahoma, passed away on June 15, 2025, in Poteau, Oklahoma. He was born on June 6, 1948, in Oregon to Majel Scott and Bill Akin. In 1995, Billy married the love of his life, Diana Elam, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. The two shared 30 beautiful years together. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Billy was truly a jack of all trades-working throughout his life as a logger, carpenter, and mechanic. He loved fishing, playing chess, bird watching, and traveling to new places. A fan of classic country music, Billy always had a tune playing in the background. He was also a talented cook who found great joy in preparing meals for family and friends.
Known for his playful spirit, Billy was a lifelong prankster, always ready with a joke or trick to make others laugh. But beyond the humor, he was best remembered for his kind heart. He put his family first, treated strangers with warmth, and had a deep love for animals. He lived his life guided by faith and was truly a Godly man.
Billy is survived by his devoted wife, Diana Akin; his adopted daughter, Carol Covey, and her husband, Donny Covey; and his cherished grandchildren: Kadence Covey and Andy Anderson, Elizabeth Covey, Jessica Marie, and Whitney Reed. He is also survived by his beloved siblings: Barbara, Majel Smith, Murray Inman, Eva Squires, and Melody Henley; and by his nieces, Holly Bryson and Dana Hemphill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his adopted son, Marty; and his brothers, Danny Inman and Steven Akin.
Billy will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Cremation is under the thoughtful care River Glenn Cremation and Funeral Services. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of John, please visit our Tree Store.
