John Book

John C. Book, age 82, of Montreal, Missouri passed away on January 1, 2026, at Lake Regional Health System. John was born on February 2, 1943, in Pasadena, California; a son of Chester and Eva (Oberholtzer) Book. John was united in marriage to the love of his life, Sharon Zook on July 7, 1967, in Upland, California.
John faithfully served as pastor of Buffalo Prairie Baptist Church in Montreal, Missouri, for more than 20 years, leading with deep conviction, a joyful spirit, and a warm sense of humor. In addition to his ministry, he owned and operated John Book's Landscaping Business, where he modeled a strong work ethic and involved his children, teaching them the value of hard work, responsibility, and providing for family. He also served on the Board of Directors for Lake Christian Academy, always investing in the next generation. He loved life on the farm, raising cattle and creating cherished memories with his grandchildren, especially taking them out on the farm and teasing Grandma Sharon on the tractor. A gifted storyteller, he enjoyed sharing stories from his childhood. He taught his children and grandchildren the joys of camping, and hiking, and he had a passion for antiques, often finding treasures at auctions, turning a small profit, and generously donating the proceeds to the church. His life reflected faith, service, generosity, and a love for family that will be deeply missed.
John is survived by his wife Sharon Book of the home; his children Chris Book (Marsha), Carol Straw (Jeff), and Jenny Taylor (Jeff); his grandchildren Stephen Straw (Emily), Tristan Straw(Rebbecca), Jade Taylor, Adam Taylor, Kent Taylor; his two great-grandchildren Torben Straw and Jack Straw; his siblings Orrin Book, Allen Book (Mona), Anita Wingert (Don), Loine Turner (Jeff); other relatives and many friends.
John is preceded in death by his parents Chester and Eva Book; his sister Mary Ellen Wingerd, and brother Jerel Book.
