John Kimberlin Butcher passed away at 5:55 a.m. on May 24, 2022, following a brief illness. John was born in Muskogee, OK on February 14, 1937, five minutes after his brother Phillip.
He moved to Shreveport in 1939 where he resided most of his life apart for a year as a teen in Washington, D.C. John was a graduate of St. James School in Hagerstown, MD and Centenary College. He was a member of the Beta Iota Chapter of Alpha Tau Omega at Georgia Tech. A lifelong Episcopalian, he married Mary Kathryn Kay Woodruff in 1963. They resided in Shreveport where John worked as a stockbroker and commercial real estate agent. They raised two daughters and numerous pets. Always on the quest for knowledge and adventure, John traveled the world, never meeting a stranger. He admired a good opera, loved dogs, enjoyed water and snow skiing, scuba diving, and skippering his champion lightning sailboat- Buglet 11385. John was a friend of Bill, and a self-proclaimed servant of God and mankind. He loved meeting for coffee and discussing politics with his gaggle group .
John leaves his wife of 58 years, Kay; his daughters, Kathryn Butcher Feinstone and Susan Butcher Barnett (Robert) both of Memphis, TN; as well as his beloved granddaughter, Chloe Kiri Feinstone. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Joanna Butcher, and his brother, Phillip.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at The Church of the Holy Cross with interment of ashes in the rose garden and a reception to follow in the parish hall.
The family would like to thank John s crew, Ward Leroy Peters, for faithfully steering John s final voyage to the Dogstar where he is no doubt frolicking with Zandra the wonder dog, Sweet William, and Sweet Pea.
Should you feel moved to memorialize John, please enjoy lively conversation with family and friends, seek adventure where you find it, or walk a dog, for he loved such things.
