Retired Master Chief Petty Officer JP Core carried out his orders for his final deployment on June 30, 2025, at his home outside of Frankfort, Ohio, according to his wishes. At his final port-of-call, he will once again be healthy and will be barking orders in his true JP Core style.
JP was born on March 19, 1960, in Washington Court House, Ohio, to John Core and Wanda Kinnamon Core Fout, and was a 1978 graduate of Adena High School. In 1980, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and became a Nuclear Electronics Technician. He proudly served as a Nuke ET/Reactor Operator aboard the submarines USS Benjamin Franklin (SSBN-640), USS Minneapolis-St. Paul (SSN-708), USS Scranton (SSN-756), USS Spadefish (SSN-668), USS Charlotte (SSN-766), the submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS-39), and SPAWAR Systems. He retired from the Navy at exactly the 20-year point and then continued to work at SPAWAR as a civilian employee until he medically retired in 2012.
While stationed at the Nuclear Power Training Facility in Idaho Falls, JP met, and then married Coleen, his wife of 41 years. Together, they had one son, Chistopher John Core (Beavercreek, Ohio). On July 11, 2014, JP was given the gift of a second chance at life with a double lung transplant. On December 23, 2019, he received yet another gift, a kidney transplant. He lived each day giving his best effort to keep his gifted organs as healthy as possible. Most recently, he spent almost 2 years fighting several different cancers with the same courage and determination with which he faced everything else.
JP is survived by his wife, Coleen; their son, Chris; an older brother; Bruce (Chillicothe); two older sisters, Beth Carithers (Jeff, of Circleville), and Debbie Core (Frankfort); his mother-in-law Alba Shank (Waverly); and several nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his parents, younger brother; Steve Core, a niece; Carrie Core, and a close cousin; Scott DeWitt.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. His remains will be cremated. Instead, his family requests that you each find a happy place and raise a toast in his honor and remember his escapades in life. The EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Frankfort is serving the family.
~~Fair winds and following seas, Master Chief. Until we meet again.
