John P. Del Carlo Sr.

John P. Del Carlo, Sr., age 72, a 20 year resident of Plainfield, IL, passed away unexpectedly on September 4, 2024 at his home. He was born in Chicago, IL on May 13, 1952.
John is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 20 years, Mary E. Del Carlo (nee Erbe); his children, John P. Del Carlo, Jr. and Natalie L. (James) Gifford; his cousins, Mary (Rich) Bojko and Tom (Jackie) Proscissi; his siblings-in-law, Stanley (Kathleen) Erbe, Anne (Reed) Heckmann and Steve (Melissa) Erbe; as well as his nieces, nephews and good friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronaldo and Adelina Del Carlo, and his twin-brother, Joseph Del Carlo.
John proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1973 until 1977, when he received his honorable discharge. He earned his bachelor's degree in aviation maintenance from Lewis University in 1979. John retired from United Airlines in 2020. He kept his mechanic's licenses up to date and dedicated the last 44 years to his trade. Even though he wasn't a pilot, John loved everything there was about aviation.
In his spare time John enjoyed traveling, fishing and grilling out, and was an excellent cook. He was a longtime member of St. Mary Immaculate Church and the Legion of Mary.

Visitation will be Monday, September 9, 4:00-8:00 PM at the Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, corner of Routes 30 & 59, Plainfield. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 10, 10:30 AM at St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, 15629 S. Route 59, Plainfield. Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
