John DeVault Obituary
Born on July 27, 1935, in National, MD, he was the son of the late Charles William and Ida Mae (Beeman) DeVault. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Mary Alean (Wagoner) DeVault; and youngest brother, Joseph Daniel DeVault.
Jack was a 1954 graduate of Valley High School. He joined the United States Navy in 1955, where he became plank owner on the USS Kawishiwi Fleet Oiler. He was honorably discharged in 1961. Jack retired from Westvaco with 35 years of service.
Jack enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends, including his close friends who he fished with on the Cranberry River. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion in Westernport, member of the Cresaptown Eagles, lifetime member of the N.R.A., and a member of the Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his daughter, Debra Mathena and husband Paul; son, John A. DeVault, Jr. and wife Michaelle; grandchildren, Matthew and Bryson Fram, and Joshua and Daniel DeVault; several great-grandchildren; brother, Charles DeVault; special friend, Cathy Holcomb; two wonderful sisters-in-law, Anna Lee Hiner, and Betty Lou Jenkins; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Jack's family would like to thank the Veteran's Administration and Home Base Care, as well as Comfort Keepers and UPMC Western Maryland Hospice.
The family has requested that, in lieu of sending flowers, memorial contributions be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516; St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; VA Maryland Health Care System c/o Perry Point VA Medical Center, Voluntary Service (PP/135/VS), Building 15H, Room 214, Perry Point, MD 21902; and/ or to UPMC Western Maryland Hospice, PO Box 539, Cumberland, Maryland 21501.
In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no services. Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. is entrusted with arrangements, and condolences may be left at www.ScarpelliFH.com
