John Devine Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home on Jan. 15, 2026.
JOHN J. DEVINE, of Woburn, died suddenly on January 13, 2026, at the age of eighty-three. He was the founder and owner/operator of Woburn Cab and North Suburban Transportation.

With shattered hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, a man of exceptional character who was deeply loved and widely respected throughout his community. John's warm smile, gentle words, and steady presence made all who knew him feel welcomed, valued, and cared for. His absence leaves the world quieter and our hearts forever changed.

John was the beloved husband of the late Claire M. (Nielsen) Devine, with whom he shared a lifetime of love. While our grief is heavy, we find comfort in knowing they have been reunited and are together again, watching over the family they built with such devotion.

He was a devoted father, cherished grandfather, and the heart and foundation of his family-a guiding teacher, steadfast protector, and unwavering source of support, loving each of us fiercely and unconditionally.

He is survived by his loving children: Paul Devine and his husband, Rob, of California; John P. "Jay" Devine of Woburn; Deborah Austin and her husband, Bill Austin, of Atlanta; Eddie Loud and his wife, Doreen Loud, of Maryland; John Loud and Holly Thomas of Atlanta; and Linda Loud of Woburn, who was truly the heart and soul of the family and his greatest supporter.

John was the cherished grandfather of Danielle Russo and her husband, Derek Russo, of Wilmington; Paul Hart and his wife, Julia Hart, of Tennessee; Ashlee McGlashing of Woburn; Cameron McGlashing and his wife, Nathalia McGlashing, of Tewksbury; Joshua Loud of Atlanta, GA; Caroline Loud of NYC; Brianna Loud; Emily Loud of Wilmington; and Eddie Loud and his wife, Hannah Loud, of Maryland.

He is also survived by his beloved great-grandchildren: Jaden Doherty, Alexa Hart, Ansley Hart, Amelia Hart, Claire Russo, Matthew Lapointe, Camilla Hart, Mackenzie Lapointe, Logan McGlashing, Charlotte Russo, Michael Lapointe, and Ana McGlashing, who brought him immense joy and pride.

He was the dear brother of Mary Ellen Devine; Denis Devine; and Peter Devine and his wife, Kathy Devine. He is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews, as well as his extended Woburn Cab North Suburban family, who were a meaningful and treasured part of his life.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Claire Devine; his grandson, Thomas Hart; and his brothers, James and Daniel Devine and his sister Patricia Devine.

John Devine leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and kindness that will endure for generations. Though he will be deeply missed, we are forever grateful for the time we were blessed to share.

His Funeral Mass will be held on January 20th at 11:30 a.m. in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn. Interment will follow in Woodbrook Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to calling hours on Monday, January 19, from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn.

As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the Woburn High School Hall of Fame.

Rest in peace, Grampy. Until we meet again.
