John F Getce

John Franklin Getce, 86, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights, OH.
He was born on November 19, 1938, in Chillicothe, OH, the son of Frank and Imogene (Dunkle) Getce.
John honorably served our country in the United States Army, where he worked as a map maker. This was something he took great pride in and later passed on to his children by ensuring they all knew how to read a map. He dedicated much of his career to maintenance work and was known for his stoic nature and strong work ethic, always providing faithfully for his family. John enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, from watching westerns to spending time with his loved ones. He especially cherished visits to amusement parks and making memories with his grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory is his son, John F. Getce, Jr.; his daughter, Lisa (Jason) Cowles; his sister, Shirley Rohm; his grandchildren, Joseph Brunty, Jake Brunty, Isaac Zielinski, and Elijah Zielinski; his step-grandchildren, Derek and Aiden Cowles; and his great-grandson, Jacob "JJ" Brunty, Jr.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jewel Getce; his daughter, Mary Ann Brunty; and his siblings, Kay Ann Tackett, Sharon Green, Sandra Getce, David Getce, and Fred Getce.
A funeral service will be held at Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Avenue, Ashtabula, on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 1:00 PM with Pastor Rich Meier of Cherry Valley Church of the Nazarene. Calling hours will be held from 11:00 AM until the time of services. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
