John Gilbert Obituary

He met the love of his life in 10th grade Rosa Glover, a few years later he enlisted in the Army. After returning home from the army he married the love of his life Rosa. He was employed by the Florida School for Deaf & Blind and Flagler Hospital, a few years later he moved his family to New York, there he was employed by the New York Transit Authority. After retiring he relocated back to St. Augustine, Florida.
John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and Godfather. He was always willing to help others. The Lord called him home to receive his reward on September 8, 2024, early Sunday morning.
John was preceded in death by his wife Rose Lee Gilbert, his mother Edith Crawford, his grandmother, Ada Rembert, his daughter Edith Gilbert, his grandchildren, Stacy Tillman, Marian Brice, his great grandson, Iverson Brice and his son in law Charles Frye.
He leaves to cherish his memories: Daughters: Valarie Gilbert, Gloria Frye, Lucille (Kate) Tillman, Sons: Brian Gilbert, Henry (Liz) Tillman, Grand children: Shawn Brice, Tiffany Albury and Anthony Albury. Grand children: 13 great grandchildren, a special niece, Bridget Granger, nephew Wille Mc Neal and God daughter/caregiver, Karen (Sam) Preston, a host of nieces and nephews.
A public visitation will be held, Friday, September 20, 2024, 10:00 am – 11:00 am with a funeral services beginning at 11:00 am at Craig Funeral Home Burial to follow at Craig Memorial Park, Pastor Julius Perry is officiating Craig Funeral Home, Crematory and Memorial Park is in charge of arrangements.
