John Michael Gimblette, age 74, recently of
Red Bank, NJ, (formerly of
Lakewood, NJ), passed away on December 22, 2025, after bravely battling Parkinson's Disease for nearly two decades.
John was born on June 12, 1951, to the late John William and Ellen (O'Connor) Gimblette in New York City. He attended Regis High School in Manhattan, during which time he met his future wife, Kim Murray. He went on to attend Providence College in Rhode Island, majoring in Mathematics. He had a long, varied and dedicated career in Human Resources, specializing in benefits administration.
John took great pleasure in coaching his sons in their athletic activities, whether it be basketball, soccer or baseball. When not coaching, he was an enthusiastic spectator at their events and later at his grandsons' events.
John was an avid fan of the NY Yankees, Giants and Knicks. He was known for his infectious laugh and quick wit, but he was truly at his happiest when hosting others at the house. He loved spending time around the table, sharing stories and jokes over a delicious meal for which he was almost always the chef. He had taken numerous Adult Education courses at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park and was proud to share his expertise with family and friends.
After retiring in 2014 and moving from New York to New Jersey, John developed a passion for duplicate bridge. He achieved the level of Life Master in 2024 and was very close to achieving Bronze Life Master. He and Kim spent much of their time traveling to tournaments around the country. But their adventures extended beyond the card table - on a recent Viking River Cruise to Normandy, France, John had the profound experience of walking the very beach where his father had piloted landing craft during World War II. When asked recently what the most important thing in his life was, he responded "family". This was demonstrated both on an individual basis or when he masterminded multi-generational family vacations.
John is survived by his loving wife, Kim (Murray), their three sons, John Andrew (Claudine Murtha), Peter (Denise Brown), and Michael (Theresa Byrket), and three grandsons, Quinn, Colin, and Gavin. He is also survived by his sisters, Marianne Hricay and Jane Ellen Gimblette-Merritt, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026 at 12:00 noon at Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in
Hawthorne, NY (10 W. Stevens Ave.,
Hawthorne, NY 10532). If desired, contributions may be made to
The Parkinson's Foundation (www.parkinson.org) in his memory.
