John D. Good, 68, of Bloomington, formerly of Kewanee, passed away Monday, August 19, 2024, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka, IL. John was born September 8, 1955, in Colorado Springs, CO, the son of Philip H. and Marylyn M. (Smith) Good. John attended high school in Denver, Colorado. He obtained an associate's degree in business from Black Hawk College in Kewanee, IL.
John is survived by three children, Stephanie (James) Hancock, Downs, IL, Brian (Stacy) Good, Bartonville, IL, and Stephen Good, Mapleton, IL; seven grandchildren, Anna (Kaleb) Landes, Kate, Sara, Lily, Ezra Hancock, Samuel and Stella Good; siblings, Jean (Reed) Brickell, Maryanne (Bob) Dybdal, and Phil (Kaleigh) Good, Jr; and stepmother Mary Good; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Jennifer Good.
John served in the United States Coast Guard for four years and received the award of Honor Crew for the USCGC Buttonwood along with a Letter of Appreciation from the Commanding Officer for his work ethic and willingness to work after hours to complete the rehab and maintenance program on the ship. After his stint with the Coast Guard, John joined his father Phil Sr. at Good's Furniture in Kewanee. John's role was instrumental in the growth and success of the company through the years. He was a director of the company and led the sales and operations teams. John had an unbelievable talent for creating inspiring showroom displays and helping thousands of people make their house the home they dreamt.
He was a loving father and proud grandfather. He was known for his strong work ethic, and going above and beyond the call of duty. He enjoyed hiking, biking, and spending time with his family. He loved his church and often volunteered when needed. He was very creative and wrote several short stories and poems and was also known for his ability to roast and toast at a moments notice. He was good at connecting with people and an amazing storyteller. His family and friends will forever miss his contagious laugh, humor, and great smile.
The Visitation will be held from 12:00 – 2:00 pm, Friday, August 30, 2024, at the First Congregational Church. The Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 pm. Pastor Justin Rumley will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Military Rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Memorials may be made to Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka or Wounded Warrior. John, Judy and I use to go boating all the time with their small children. We always had so much fun together back in the day.

I loved playing football catch with John. And he was always ready for a good smile and solid handshake. We will miss him at Eureka AC Home!
