John Grush Obituary

John "Lee" Grush, Jr., 74, of River Ridge, passed away on August 14, 2024. Born on April 5, 1950, in New Orleans, LA to parents, the late John Lee Grush, Sr. and Ruth Riviere Grush. Lee graduated from Archbishop Rummel High School, Class of 1968. He went on to earn a degree in Biology Education at Southeastern Louisiana University. He enjoyed a successful career as an insurance agent for over 40 years and engaged in community programs throughout his life. Lee found great joy in mentoring and helping others in his local community. He was a founding member of the LA Executive Achievers Association. Lee was also a longstanding member of the Lakeside Kiwanis Club of Metairie and played an instrumental role in getting Key Club started at Riverdale High School. Lee was a true patriot who loved his country, finding joy and solace in the great outdoors. He was an excellent hunter and fisherman. His passion for hunting and fishing was matched only by his love for baseball and golf. A devoted fan of LSU sports, he never missed a game and always cheered with unwavering enthusiasm. Above all, Lee cherished moments spent with family, especially his grandchildren, creating lasting memories through shared adventures and laughter together. Lee's legacy of love, faith, and community, as well as the lessons he taught us, will forever be remembered by all who knew him. Lee is survived by his brothers: Brink (Charlene), David (Linda), and Gene (Joyce) Grush; the mother of his 3 children, Gail Grush; his daughters, Jill (Shane) Stradley and Julie Kenney; his son, John "Johnny" Lee Grush, III; his granddaughters, Teagan and Kaylin Stradley; nephews: Eric (Britton), Ryan (Elizabeth), and Alex (Emily) Grush; and nieces: Sara (Steve) Davis, Rachael (John) Graff, Loren (Chris) White, and Christina Grush. Please join us in remembrance on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at the Garden of Memories Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4900 Airline Dr. Metairie, LA 70001 for visitation from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm with the service beginning at noon followed by burial. In lieu of flowers, Lee's family requests donations be made to either the local Kiwanis Clubs or at their website www.kiwanis.org or the Executive Achievers Association in honor of his community service at www.eaanola.org. I have been friends with Lee since 1951, when my family lived directly behind his on Le Bar Road. His family moved to Kenner and mine to River Ridge. We hung out a lot together as kids and have stayed in contact over the years. When we talked, he would brag on his brothers, kids, and grandkids. I am sorry for your loss. And mine.

I want to express my sincere condolences on Lee's death.
I met Lee here at Morrison Insurance over 25 years ago.
He was always kind and a good person in this tough insurance business.
We always had good conversations on business.
He told me stories about his Dad in the war and shared other personal friend to friend stories.
He was a good man. Love Glenn Oliver
May God bless and keep Lee and his family.

Lee was one of 16 first cousins from the Grush family. He would seldom call me to meet for lunch because we both worked in Metairie. We always had the best conversations. He was so outgoing and easy to talk to. When I was gathering items for genealogy research, because he lived in the family home, he was very helpful in gathering items for me to include. We were fortunate to have a reunion of the cousins last fall. Lee was the 3rd cousin of the 16 to leave us and I just learned we lost the 4th last night, Charlie Belsom. I think the cousins all agree that we come from good stock. Peace!
