John Haney Sr.

John Edward Haney Sr., passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025, at the age of 74. Known affectionately as John, he graced this world with his presence on October 3, 1950, in the very town where he would spend his entire life, building a legacy of love, faith, and dedication to his family and community.

John's life was a testament to the values he held dear: hard work, service, and family. He retired from a fulfilling career at AK Steel, where he was well-respected for his skill and dedication to the blast furnace, a role that exemplified his strength and resilience. But John's work was not confined to the steel mill; he was also a devoted servant of God, pastoring many Baptist churches throughout his life. His unwavering faith and ability to inspire those around him left an indelible mark on the many congregations he led.

At home, John was a loving husband to Debra Fields Haney, with whom he shared a beautiful and enduring partnership. He was a proud son to his late parents, John L. Haney and Naomi Barber. His legacy includes his children, John Haney Jr. and his wife, Kristen, and daughter Tina Haney Klaiber and her husband, Stephen, who will forever cherish the wisdom and love he imparted. John was a brother to fifteen siblings, nine of whom are still living and who will miss his guidance and warm, protective presence.

John's role as a grandfather and great-grandfather brought him immense joy. His grandchildren, Bryant Combs, William Washington Jr., Joseph Robinson, Vyctoria LaShea Robinson, and Wyatt Parker Haney, along with his great-grandchildren Gage, Logan, and Rohen, were the light of his life.

Beyond his family and work, John had a passion for the outdoors. He found peace and contentment in raising beagles, a hobby that showcased his patience and nurturing spirit. Fishing and camping were among his favorite ways to relax and connect with nature, often accompanied by family and friends who shared in these joyful experiences.
