John "Jack" Hediger, of Philadelphia, passed away on February 10th, 2024 after a valiant battle with Parkinson disease at the age of 80. He was the beloved husband of Mary Hediger; devoted father of John Hediger, Jr. (Michelle), and Thomas Hediger (Cecilia); loving grandfather of Aiden and Annabelle; and cherished brother of Janet. Jack was also the loved brother of Betty, Julie, Jude, Anna, John, George, Cecilia, Kate, and the late Chris. He will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and close friends.
Jack was predeceased by his siblings Anna, Alfred, Mary, Joseph, George, Charles, and Betty.
Jack was born and raised in Philadelphia by his parents Alfred and Elizabeth Hediger. He graduated from St. Veronica's Catholic School and then Cardinal Dougherty Highschool. After Highschool, Jack joined the United States Army, leaving his then girlfriend Mary behind, serving from 1963 – 1965. He served in Germany, and traveled to Sicily, Milan, Rome, Ireland, and London. Jack returned home in 1965, and wasted no time marrying Mary shortly after in 1966. They had a beautiful life together being married for 58 years, and raising their two sons. The two went on many adventures across the country to hike through our National Parks, or really anywhere Mary wanted to take him. Jack was a devoted family man, and was great with his grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Jack had a long career of 38 years with ACME, working his way up to Produce Manager. He enjoyed skeet shooting, and loved the Eagles. Jack could bring joy and laughter just by entering a room. His fun personality, and great sense of humor made him a joy to be around, and led to many "Jack" stories over the years. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Family and friends are invited to Jack's Life Celebration on Friday, February 16th, from 10 – 11:30 AM at the John F. Givnish Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Jack's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
