John R. Henderson, 58, passed away on April 11th, 2025, in La Plata, MD. John was born in Washington, DC to William Henderson and Diane Clark Henderson. John is predeceased by both parents. John was an only child.
To know John was to absolutely love him. He was quite a charmer, with quick wit and a gentle manner. He was inquisitive, funny, affectionate, helpful, hardworking and devoted to anyone he considered a friend. John made friends wherever he went and didn't forget anyone.
John has lived in La Plata for the last 25 years, with his roommates, while also enjoying the many friendships he made over the years at Spring Dell Center. John loved to help people and loved to be the center of attention. He had a ton of "that's my girlfriend" friends and often gave them silly nicknames. John had favorite sayings and loved to sing Happy Birthday to everyone on their special day.
For a time, John worked as a Custodian at the Charles County Rescue Squad, Maryland Fire and Rescue and the Legal Aid building. He also worked at Atlantic Cycle and Shine Brite. On the side, he had his own cat sitting business. He loved his furry friends.
He also played Buddy Ball, loved to be in a swimming pool, riding on the back of a Harley and showing off his tattoo. He enjoyed a good cup of coffee and his favorite "cheeseburger, french fries and a sprite." John loved animals and had a fondness for horses and cats. He really enjoyed horseback riding, which he did for many years.
John was a ray of sunshine and brought a sense of joy to others just by being in your presence. As John would say, "Put it on the ball today!" The exact meaning of that statement will remain a mystery. His love of life and radiant spirit will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 from 11AM until time of service at 12Noon at the Raymond Funeral Service, P.A., 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, Maryland 20646.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John's name may be made to Spring Dell Center, 6040 Radio Station Road, La Plata, Maryland 20646.
