John William Hicks, 72, of Erlanger, KY, passed away peacefully at home on September 20, 2024. Born in Cincinnati, OH, on July 12, 1952, to the late John and Lucille Hicks, John dedicated over 30 years to serving as a mechanic for the City of Cincinnati before his retirement.
A man of many passions, John enjoyed walking, camping, and spending time at turkey shoots. He found immense joy in the company of his beloved dogs and cherished moments with his grandchildren. His playful spirit and warmth will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
John is survived by his devoted wife of 20 years, Patti Hicks, and their sons: John (Christy) Hicks and Phillip (Nicole) Hicks. He is also mourned by daughters Dianna Hicks and Alisa Snow, brothers Joe (Lucrecia) Hicks, Jeff (Michelle) Hicks, Lonnie (Lisa) Hicks, and Troy (Missy) Hicks, as well as sisters Judy (Tim) Messer and Janet Cottrell. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren: Josh, Jess, Jake, Jordan, Amber, Jonathon, Justin, Alex, Braxton, Koy, Peyton, Bo, Ty, and Trinity, and eight great-grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jerry Hicks.
Online condolences may be expressed on Facebook or at SerenityFuneralCare.com.
In our hearts, John will remain a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend. He touched many lives and leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter.
Dear family and Friends of John Hicks,
I have decided to honor John's wishes. He did not want a funeral or any kind of fan-fare. He was a very good and humble man, always in service to others, helping whoever needed a hand. I found his hand writing on a small piece of cardboard in his top drawer: "LOVE IS FOREVER, GREIF IS NOT THE FINAL EXPRESSION OF LOVE. LOVING MEMORIES LAST FOREVER."
I know in my heart that he would rather you honor his legacy by doing random acts of kindness. Maybe even adopt a shelter pet.
I fell in love with my dear "Good Samaritan" right off the bat. He would want everyone to be good to themselves and each other.
Also, share stories of him whoever you might gather; be it around a campfire, grill out or even social media. I miss him so much, but smile when I think of how he lived everyday to the fullest; even the last nine years. He would want everyone to devote their prayers to Josh, Chelsea and Baby Grace at this time. Thank you and God Bless You.
Love,
Patti
