John Izzi Obituary

John A. Izzi Sr.
"Beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend"
John Izzi, 86, of Waterbury, was reunited with his brothers, parents, and countless friends in heaven on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Waterbury Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories, shaped by devotion to family, friendship, and community. He was the beloved husband of Frances "Fran" (Samela) Izzi, with whom he shared 56 wonderful years of marriage.
John was born in Waterbury on January 8, 1940, a son of the late Francesco and Elizabeth (Emanuel) Izzi. A graduate of Leavenworth High School, he built a career rooted in hard work and dedication, serving as a butcher at Waterbury Meat Market and as a foreman at Waterbury Foundation and Waterbury Concrete. He was also a proud member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners, Local Union 24, reflecting his commitment to his craft and community.
An avid Harley-Davidson fan and motorcycle enthusiast, John enjoyed the freedom of the open road and the camaraderie of fellow riders. He was an active and cherished member of many social and cultural organizations, including the Elks Club, the Cercemaggiore Club, the Lakewood Social Club, and the Motorcycle Club. His presence will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all at Café Italia and La Tazza, where he often gathered with friends to share laughter and stories.
In his earlier years, John honorably served in the Army Reserve, reflecting his sense of duty and pride and his desire to serve his country with honor. He also loved travel, the sun, and especially time spent at the beach with his family. Annual family vacations, particularly trips to Milford, held a special place in his heart, leaving memories filled with warmth, tradition, and togetherness that will be cherished for generations.
As the last of seven brothers, John carried the stories, strength, and legacy of a large family, honoring those who came before him through the life he lived and the love he gave. He was predeceased by his brothers, Albert M. "Butch" Izzi, Anthony "Tony" Izzi, Angelo Izzi, Carmen Izzi, Michael Izzi, and Mario "Moe" Izzi.
Besides his beloved wife, Frances, John leaves behind his three children, John Izzi Jr. and his wife, Joley of Waterbury, Danielle Izzi and her significant other, Kristin Mooney of Middlebury, and Mark Izzi of Waterbury. He was a proud and loving grandfather to five grandchildren: Mia, Lexy, Jadan, Anthony, and Sierra, who brought him immense joy and pride. He also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
John will be remembered for his warmth, his love of life, and the way he made others feel welcome and valued. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the memories, traditions, and love he leaves behind.
Arrangements: A funeral will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 8:45 a.m. from Chase Parkway Memorial, the Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, to Blessed Sacrament Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury. i'd like to leave a message for John, Mark,  and Danielle
I met your father and knew him through my brother Guy and his union with Danielle and then later with his grandchildren Lexy and Anthony.
I just wanted to share something about your dad that always moved me when I was around him.
I didn't have a real big relationship with your dad, except whenever there was a gathering through my brother Guy, and then later through the kids, but I need to say I was so impressed with your father's presence. You knew he was in the room when he was there.  And I always felt that your dad radiated a sense of love for  his family, to me it was like you didn't even need to talk about it, you felt it,  you knew how much this man loved his family.  You knew how important his family was to him. They were his world. And I always admired that about him. I'm only sorry I never told him, but I am glad I have the opportunity to tell you guys. Maybe growing up with your dad might not have seemed like it, but it really was a true blessing, because you guys were the most important thing in the world to him!
I have a memory of something that happened in your family that left a lasting impression on me on just how important his family was to him. Johnny, you had gotten in a motorcycle accident and I believe it was pretty serious.  I think you were in a hospital maybe down in Florida.  I didn't know you John I knew you only through my brother Guy and what he shared. My understanding was that your dad came down there and took you home. I have to tell you I can feel the tears welling up in my eyes as I share these words.  because my children knew growing up that they could call me from any place in the world and I would go and get them. So when I heard what your father did it stuck with me, for so many reasons one of them being, how much we love our kids.
May you guys find support in each other and support for your mom.
God bless you guys!
