John Melvin Jones

1941 ~ 2025

John Melvin Jones, died on September 4th, 2025, peacefully at home in American Fork at age 84, after a long battle with cancer.

He was born January 14th, 1941 to Velma G Nelson and Stanley Rockwell Jones. He was the second child born out of four kids. He attended Pleasant Grove High School as well as explored a military career, however, due to his eye injury he sustained as a child, they would not accept him into the service. After finding a new path he spent his life professionally cleaning two office buildings at Pacific State Cast Iron Pipe and later became a Dock worker for ZCMI.

He married Una Pulley Jones in the Salt Lake Temple, September 3, 1970 and together they celebrated 55 years. In life he was passionate about history, planes, watching the Three Stooges and was an avid collector. He would annually attend the Air shows at Hill air force base with his family, as they shared the same love for planes. His hobbies consisted of making model airplanes, tanks, and spending time with loved ones, which included family camping reunions at Timpooneke campsite in American Fork Canyon. He loved to travel, especially with the senior citizens on the bus, to the Tuacahn theatre in Saint George. He was active in the Church and spent over 50 years as the ward Librarian.

He is proceeded in death by His Parents Velma and Stanley, his Sister Janice and his Brother Aaron. He is survived by his Wife, Una Pulley Jones, his Sister Mary Jones Carter, and his children, Carolyn (Stretch) Cowley, John (Traci) Jones, Steven (Shawntae) Jones, and Marie Jones as well as 9 Grand Kids and 10 Great grand kids.

Funeral Services for John will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025 at 11:00 am in the American Fork 27th Ward Chapel, located at 165 North 350 West American Fork, Utah. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday morning from 9:30-10:30 am prior to service at the church. Interment will be in the American Fork Cemetery.
