Cathy Matthia passed away on August 17, 2025 at the age of 53 in her home in Pleasant Grove, Utah surrounded by loved ones. She was born March 5, 1972 in Provo, Utah to Kurt and Sheela Matthia. She was the 6th of 8 children. Raised in Pleasant Grove, she graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1990.

In school she excelled as a student and was a DJ for KPGR. She played piano, loved ballet, and babysitting. She was very determined and anything she set her mind to, she accomplished.

In 1995, Cathy was in an automobile accident leaving her quadriplegic. Despite her many physical limitations, she lived another 30 years. She loved babies, country music, and spending time with family. Although she never had children of her own, she loved her 27 nieces and nephews, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews with all her heart. She put every effort into being involved in each of their lives. Her home was filled with toys, crafts, games, Disney movies, and everything fun she could think of and was very thoughtful in her gift giving. She enjoyed crafting and decorating, making her house a home with the help of her sisters.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents Kurt & Margaret Matthia and Albert & Gussie Wohlrabe and her nephew Chase Carter. She is survived by her parents and her siblings Mark (Hale) Matthia, Phaedra (Art) Serna, Heidi (Mark) Yardley, Suzanne (Shaun) Carter, Sheila (Jeff) Washburn, Rachel (Clay) Melnyk, and Becky (Dave) Mader.

Our thanks go out to the many patient and kind caregivers who have taken such good care of Cathy over the years, many of whom she has kept contact with and remained friends with throughout the years.

A small celebration of life will be held with her close family and friends at a later date.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com.
