Ruby Gayle Holdaway, 88, of Lindon, died peacefully June 30, 2025 in her home surrounded by loving family. She was born in American Fork, Utah, on October 30, 1937 to Edwin Loehr Mart and Anna Jessie Fowles. She grew up in Pleasant Grove, Utah and is the oldest of three sisters.
Gayle graduated from Pleasant Grove High School and attended the LDS Business school in Salt Lake City. She worked for the Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company in both Pleasant Grove and Provo.
On September 10, 1957 she married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Donald Hugh Holdaway in the Salt Lake Temple. They raised 5 children and were blessed to spend 61 wonderful years together. During those years she spent much of her time serving in her community. She was PTA president of the Lindon Elementary, member of Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and served in many different positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Together with her husband she enjoyed serving for 17 years in the Mount Timpanogos Temple.
Throughout her life Gayle has used her many talents to bless the lives of those around her, especially her family. Gayle was a very accomplished seamstress. She began early in life being taught by her mother. She sewed her own clothes while growing up, including formals for dances. She sewed dresses for her daughters, blessing dresses for her granddaughters, and quilts for everyone.
She was an excellent cook. She fed her own family as well as often taking meals to others who were going through hard or trying times. Gayle enjoyed crafting, scrap booking, gardening and fishing with her husband. She often told her children that one of her favorite things was to sit back in the boat while Donald fished and watched the clouds in the blue sky.
Gayle was patient, a good listener and compassionate. She passed on many of her skills to others. She would patiently teach the things she knew to anyone who wanted to learn. She took care of everyone around her and her compassion blessed their lives because of her kindness.
Gayle is survived by her five children: Mart (Melissa) Holdaway, of Idaho; Anna (Mark) Oldham, of Orem; Chad (Kitty) Holdaway, of Lindon; Jenny (Jeff) Pusey, of Pleasant Grove; Wendy (Ray) Anderson, of Provo; Sister: Kaye Wendell of Grantsville; Eighteen Grandchildren: Shayla, Jace, Mindy, Jake, Luke, Zack, Kaden, Ryan, Emily, Haley, Taryn, Abigayle, Jessie, Cole, Emma, Alex, Rebecca, Scott; and Thirty-four Great Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her loving husband: Donald Holdaway; Her parents: Edwin and Jessie Mart; Her sister: Patricia Bushnell; Grandson: Tyler Holdaway; Granddaughter: Sarah Ann Anderson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 11:00 am in the Lindon Third Ward Chapel, 320 West 500 North, Lindon, Utah. Family and friends may attend a viewing from 9:00 – 10:45 am prior to the service. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.
