John Keith Koehler

John Keith Koehler, 90, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at the Evansville Protestant Home.
John was born in Boonville, Indiana on May 26, 1933 to the late Lucile (Hay) and Fred H. Koehler. He attended Central High School and graduated from Boonville High School. John earned a music scholarship to Evansville College and was president of Phi Mu Alpha, played in the Evansville Philharmonic, and in the Air Force ROTC. John graduated from IU earning his Masters Degree in music. After graduation, John was drafted into the United States Army, serving in Germany and playing with the 427th Army Band and German American Symphony. Throughout his career, he taught music at the elementary, high school, and collegiate levels. John was the conductor of the Evansville Symphonic Band, a member of Methodist Temple Church, and also played in the Temple Airs. He was a member of the Westside Sportsmens Club, Quarterback and Huddleback Clubs. John will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.
John is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Carol (Schellhase) Koehler of Evansville, IN; son, Kurt Koehler (Susan) of Mobile, AL; daughter, Karen Zell (John) of Jacksonville, FL; sister, Donna Williams (Terry) of Kansas City, KS; sister-in-law, Peggy Koehler of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, John and Robert Koehler; many nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, David Koehler Sr.
A celebration of John's life will be held at 9:00 am on Friday, October 13, 2023 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711 with Pastor Randy Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery where the Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites.
Friends may visit from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Browning Funeral Home and again from 8:00 am until service time on Friday at the funeral home.
