Cumberland, MD-
John F. "Bob" Krampf passed away on February 23, 2024, after a valiant battle with Dementia.
Bob was born on January 16, 1935 in Ridgeley, West Virginia. He was preceded in death by parents George W. Krampf and Cecelia E. (Stalnaker) Krampf, as well as brother Gene E. Krampf.
Bob was a graduate of Ridgeley High School class of 1953. He joined the U.S. Air Force after graduation and served in Intelligence as a radio operator. He remained close with members of his unit long after serving and considered them 'brothers' throughout the years. Bob worked for PPG Industries in Cumberland and later retired from UPS, which he affectionately called "Buster Brown". After a 'brief' retirement in Wilmington, NC, Bob returned to Cumberland and worked several years at the Allegany County sheriff's office as a district court bailiff.
He is survived by wife Charlene "Cedie" (Hare) Krampf; daughters Lisa Krampf and Jonna Roy (husband Brian), bonus kids Debra Lindsey and Jeff Helmstetter (wife Jennifer Lynn); nieces Sherri Paskowski (husband Dave), and Lauri Shreve (husband Randy); and nephew David Krampf. He is also survived by his grandson Cameron Roy, who he called "his boy" and with whom he enjoyed an incredible bond. Bob loved big and considered all his children and nieces/nephew his "kids".
Bob liked Penguins hockey, WVU Football and watching his grandson play hockey throughout the years, where he would belt out a rousing "atta-boy" each time Cameron made a good play.
In his earlier years, Bob was called on many times to donate blood for emergencies. This was very important to him to help others, and he happily donated as often as possible. He was a member of Queen City Lodge #131, A.F. & A.M., 32nd degree, Cumberland Scottish Rite Bodies. He was a long-time member of the Cumberland Moose, where he always enjoyed a good steak feed and tip jar; and was a charter member of the Cumberland Outdoor Club.
The Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A. in Cumberland is handling arrangements. At Bob's request, there will be no service, but his kids plan to have a celebration of life at a later date.
The family would like to express their immense gratitude to the 4th Hallway staff at Sterling Care Frostburg Village for their compassion and dedication during Dad's journey, especially "his girl Joy". Our never-ending appreciation for Bob's in-home caregivers; Shelia, Charity and Sonya, who loved him immensely.
We're sure Bob was joyfully greeted at the Rainbow Bridge by pups Vickie, Lady, Fawn and Mandy, so if you'd like to honor Bob's memory, please consider donating to your local animal shelter, as he dearly loved his pups.
He will be remembered by his offspring as the self-proclaimed inventor of pigs-in-a-blanket as well as for his sage advice on curing a cough or cold, "Quit that!" Always the sharp dressed clean-freak, Bob could change a tire during a rainstorm in a white suit and remain immaculate. Much to Bob's chagrin, his kids didn't inherit that gene.
Raise a glass, or a crispy mozzarella cheese stick, in celebration of Bob. Pip, pip!

My husband worked with Bob at UPS and also retired to Wilmington, NC where we shared many happy days with Bob and Cedie. We shared so many stories of our kids and grandkids that we feel as though we know them all: Lisa, Jonna, Debbie, Jeff, and of course, Cameron. We remember when Cameron was born! Our deepest sympathies go out to the entire family. He loved you all so much.
