John Charles Lain II age 71, of Spring Hill, FL went home to the Lord on Tuesday, December 31, 2024.
John was born in Camp Gordon, U.S. Army Hospital in Augusta, Georgia to parents Irene and John C. Lain on March 16, 1953. He grew up on various army bases around the country and in Germany. He loved to share the story of living near Heidelberg Castle and having the opportunity to explore it. One of the last military moves was to the Washington D.C. area where his father was stationed at the Pentagon. He attended Surrattsville High School through his junior year. He was active in sports. He especially loved playing baseball. His family moved to Florida during his senior year and lived in Tampa where John attended Leto High School. While at Leto he was inducted into the National Honor Society. His family then moved to Maximo Moorings in St. Petersburg FL. John commuted to USF in Tampa to attend college. The family's home roots however were in High Point, North Carolina and when his parents decided to move back there, John followed them. He moved back to St. Petersburg, FL in 1977.
In December 1980 he met his wife, Pam at an apartment complex Christmas party. They married in March of 1982. In 1986 they moved to Pinellas Park, FL. While living there they welcomed two sons into the family, John III (1991) and Kevin (1992). The family moved to Spring Hill, FL in 2003.
John enjoyed helping his sons with their sporting activities. He spent a lot of time practicing baseball and soccer with them. There were many out-of-town tournaments he attended with them. He inspired them to become the fine young men they are.
John was very active with his church, First Baptist Church of Spring Hill. He was a leader in the Praise and Worship ministry, a calling he enjoyed for many years. He also used his construction talents to help on various projects around the church, building the youth room, painting the ceiling in the sanctuary (new building), putting in doors, painting the old building, trimming the landscape and various other handyman jobs.
John worked for various construction companies throughout his life. Some of the largest projects were with GSW. They included the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, the Tampa Bay Convention Center, Orlando Airport, and several large hotels. His longest affiliation was with RJ Bunbury in Pinellas County where he became a General Superintendent, he worked on many school renovations and additions. John was a dedicated worker. He would arrive early and leave late.
John spent the last several years battling cancer. He went through treatments and surgery with a brave attitude and trusting God with the outcome.
John is survived by his wife of 42 years, Pam, his son John C. Lain III (Ashley) and son Kevin Lain (Sarah), grandchildren, Keoni, Alana, Carson and Noah, his brother Richard(Kay), sister-in- law, Ellen and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and a great nephew. He was predeceased by his mother, Irene, his father, John, his brother, Robert and niece Jessicah.
John will be greatly missed by his family and friends. We have comfort in knowing that he is in the Lord's presence and our hope in Christ is to be reunited with John one day.
And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 (NLT)
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 1, 2025 at First Baptist Church of Spring Hill, 7279 Pinehurst Drive, Spring Hill, FL 34606.
