John Glenn Lindbloom, age 92 of Marceline, MO, died on May 11, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his family. Glenn was the fifth child of Constantine Theodore and Mary Viola (Bauman) Lindbloom, born on January 7, 1930, at the family home in rural Osage City, KS. He married his true love of 68 years, Lila Fay Hendrickson on November 26, 1953, at the Osage City Methodist Church.
He attended the two-room schoolhouse at Rapp and graduated from Osage City High School in 1948. It wasn't until 1948 that electricity arrived and years later before inside plumbing. He served as master of ceremonies for his 50th class reunion. Glenn was influenced in the cattle industry by Vic Skonberg when he worked on a neighboring ranch during high school and that instilled a love for the cattle industry (his angus cow-calf operation). He later started a family farm where he raised mainly angus cattle and with his sons did a lot of hay baling each summer.
Shortly after graduation, he and several buddies joined the Sea Bees, serving for two years in Guam. In 1951, Glenn began his 38-year career working for the Santa Fe Railroad in the communications department. The first 7 years of marriage, Fay and the older 3 children – Carol, Kathy, and Bill – gypsied up and down the railroad track. When it came time for Carol to start school in 1960, Glenn and Fay built a home in Osage City and welcomed their 4th child, David in 1965. Glenn spent the next 7 years living out of a suitcase until getting a permanent position in Marceline, MO in 1967. He was president of the I.B.E.W. union and attended a number of conventions as their delegate. He had a vivid memory of many of the places, things, and people he was associated with and could visit for hours about these experiences.
Glenn was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school and was active in the United Methodist Men. He also served with George McAllister on his lay witness team. Glenn was a 50+ year member of the American Legion Post 264 serving in different offices, including commander. He assisted Bill Courtney who was instrumental in getting the veterans memorial in Ripley Park, in Marceline. He was also a member of the VFW, past treasurer of the rural Fire Department, and a member of NAVRE.
Glenn enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling south for the winter, camping at Table Rock Lake, Melvern Lake, and Lake Pomona. Each year, the third week in June was devoted to vacation. He loved spending time on the boat and hosted the Lindbloom Family Reunion for over 30 years in the summer in Kansas.
Glenn was preceded in death by his father "Con" T. Lindbloom, his mother, Mary Lindbloom, brothers Alvoid C. Lindbloom, Gerald B. Lindbloom, Elvis C. Lindbloom, Allen F. Lindbloom, sister Reba (Lindbloom) Olson, one grandson Charlie M. Lindbloom, and one great-granddaughter Mollie K. Krumpelman.
