John McCarthy Jr, age 76, passed away on June 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. John was born on August 10, 1948 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late John Sr. and Helen (Minnich) McCarthy. Post high school, he received a Bachelors degree from THE Ohio State University. John retired from Nationwide as a Network Engineer after 8 years.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John Myles McCarthy, Sr, and Helen (Minnich) McCarthy; his loving wife of 45 years, Linda (Walser) McCarthy; sister, Anne (Dick) Purdy; niece, Melissa Weincek; and parent in-laws, Robert and Gladys (Khulen) Walser.

He is survived by his children, Matthew and Nichole McCarthy; his grandchildren, Colton and Blake McCarthy; his niece, Melinda (Dave) McDannald; his nephew, Frank (Lora) Wiencek; his brother-in-law, Richard Walser; nephews, Eric (Courtney) Walser, Michael (Tiffanie) Walser, JD (Misty) Walser; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.

Everyone will miss the expressions of his love through the painting of landscapes, his lap cats--who are missing him tremendously. John also loved building model tanks--ask anyone how many there are! He was one who loved classic rock of the sixties and seventies, singing along and encouraging others to sing with him. His family will miss the many trips to Disney World, and also his trips to the Northeast visiting the various lighthouses. John left a legacy of love of music, travel, painting, and especially the doting care of each member of his family.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 27, 2025, from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at Pfeifer Woodyard Funeral Home in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. The funeral service will follow immediately at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial follows at Glen Rest Memorial Estates.
