John J. McGrory, Jr. ("JR"), 67. of Media, PA, passed away suddenly on October 20, 2025.
John was the son of the late John J. and Mary R. (Harley) McGrory and was born in Darby, Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of Cardinal O'Hara High School and The Pennsylvania State University, where he was also a member of the Ice Hockey Team.
John was a proud father to his beloved son, John, and is also survived by his former wife, Nancy, with whom he shared the joy of raising their son. Loving brother to Marianne (Tim) Rafter, Nancy (Matt) Houtmann, Christopher (Betty) McGrory, Jane McGrory Kraiza, Chuck (Alissa) McGrory, Gary McGrory, Michael (Heather) McGrory, and Clare (Tim) Kelly, as well as to his brother-in-law Mike McGlinchey. John is also survived by his many nieces and nephews, all of whom he adored, as well as his many cherished friends and other relatives. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his sister, Barbara McGlinchey, whose memory he cherished deeply.
John had a successful career in the glass industry, after joining his parents in the founding of McGrory Glass in 1984. With the help of his innovation, leadership, and dedication, the company grew into a respected and enduring presence in the architectural glass industry.
In recent years, John devoted significant time to philanthropic work, organizing and leading the delivery of food and clothing to those in need, particularly the homeless in Kensington and Chester. His compassion for others and his dedication to service exemplified his generous spirit and kind heart. He was also a devoted parishioner at Nativity BVM Church.
Known for his sharp wit and engaging personality, John made friends wherever he went. His sense of humor and warmth endeared him to all who knew him. John's legacy endures through his family, his friendships, his charitable efforts, and the many lives he touched. He will be remembered with great affection and respect.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Viewing and Mass of Christian Burial. Viewing to be held Sunday October 26th, 6 - 8 pm, J Nelson Rigby Funeral Home, 1 West Baltimore Avenue, Media, PA 19063, and also Monday October 27th, 9:00 -10:15am at Nativity BVM Church, 30 East Franklin Street, Media, PA 19063. Funeral Mass will be held Monday October 27th, 10:30 am at Nativity BVM Church. Interment will follow. (For those attending the viewing on Sunday evening and as needed for the services at the church, there is a public parking garage at the intersection of Baltimore Avenue and Olive Street, one block from the funeral home.)
In lieu of flowers, contributions in John's memory may be made to The Shevlin Family Foundation (https://Shevlinfamilyfoundation.org/give/donate) in honor of John, supporting a cause to which he devoted his time and compassion.
