John Harry Merk

John Harry Merk, age 59, passed away on February 14, 2026, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital with his family by his side.

A memorial visitation will be held from 11am until 1pm on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home in Nekoosa, Wis. A time of remembrance will take place at the funeral home at 1pm followed by a Celebration of Life at Whiskey Rapids in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.

John was born in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., on April 4, 1966, to Richard and Diane Merk. He graduated from John Edwards High School in Port Edwards, Wis., in 1984 and went on to receive his journeyman plumber's license. He started his career with Pelner Plumbing.

He had many favorite past times including watching the Brewers, Packers and Bucks and hunting on leased land in Buffalo Co. with close friends and son, Kaleb. He enjoyed cooking maple syrup with brother Jim, golfing with Kaleb, Kolten and Korbyn and listening to live bluegrass music. Above all else his greatest joy was spending time with his three children and three grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Kaleb Merk (Hannah), Kolten Merk, Korbyn Merk (Michael); mother, Diane Merk; brother, Jim Merk; sisters, Julie (Stuart) Foate, Jennifer Ellis; grandchildren, AtIna, Bentley, Ariella; "adopted" brother, Jeff Lucey and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his father, Richard Merk; grandparents, Robert and Marge Merk, Arthur and Ann Thomas; special uncle, Clark Merk; godmother, Susan Bartels and several aunts and uncles.
