John Enos Mickles, affectionately known as "Dad" and "Rico"-a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, veteran, and friend departed this earthly life on May 31, 2025. John was born on May 6, 1943 in Prichard, Alabama, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Otis and Minnie Lee Mickles.
John graduated from Mattie T. Blount High School in 1962. After graduation, he enlisted the US Army to serve his country.
A proud U.S. Army Veteran and a dedicated engineer at International Paper Company, John committed over 25 years to a career marked by excellence, integrity, and quiet strength. He believed in hard work, valued wisdom, and always led by example. His deep baritone voice, humble smile, and calming presence made him a cornerstone of our family.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Audrey D. Mickles, whom he now rejoins in eternal peace, a sister Annie Pouncy, and grandson Tevin Mickles.
He leaves behind five children who carry his strength and spirit: Johnnie Rochelle Mickles (Kenneth Richardson), Shamekia Mickles (Harry Mathis), Brandy Mickles (Theodore Toodle III), Alicia Smith (Jeremiah Smith II), and LaMario Mickles.
Dad as he was most dearly called, was the proud grandfather of: Donterrius Mickles, Jakayla Mickles, Briana Mickles, Braylon Busbsy, Baylie Toodle, Aiden Hayes, Anderson Hayes, and Autumn Smith.
He also delighted in his great-granddaughters, Maesynn Mickles and Egypt Reed, who brought light to his later years.
He is lovingly remembered by his devoted sisters Leola Mickles and Rose Mickles, a brother James Mickles, an aunt Mary Ann Fancher, an uncle Sidney Ware, a niece, and host of nephews, cousins, and friends.
