John Alfred "Al" Mipro, Jr. passed away on January 4th, 2025. He was 88 years old and a lifelong resident of the New Orleans area while living in Metairie for more than 60 years. Survived by his four children – John Mipro III (Kim), Terry Mipro (Theresa), Roxane Mipro Palermo (Lou), Darrell Mipro (Lisa) along with nine grandchildren – Jeremy Mipro (Aja), Kyle Mipro (Kristina), Kathryn Mipro, Rachael Mipro, Tanner Ponthieux (Alexis), Gabrielle Rooks (Brett), Amanda Palermo, Bailey Mipro, Bryce Mipro, and six great grandchildren – Grace, Tucker, Lucas, Cayden, Mckenzie, and Charlie. Preceded in death by his wife Linda, his brother Maximillian, his sister Katherine, and his parents John A. Mipro, Sr. and Elizabeth Deselles Mipro.
Graduate of Warren Easton High School, where he was an original member of the charter school board of directors and a member of the Hall of Fame. Graduate of Tulane University, where he was a member of the Tulane Booster Club and a dedicated football fan, following to all bowl games and missing only a handful of home games in his lifetime – Roll Green Wave! President of the Kiwanis Club of Mid-City and Lieutenant Governor of Kiwanis International of Louisiana & Mississippi where his efforts for community service and helping others were unparalleled. Former Officer and King of the Krewe of Mid-City where he truly enjoyed Mardi Gras and all related festivities.
Military affiliations included serving in the Louisiana National Guard and Post Commander with American Legion Post #023 for more than a decade.
Professional career included District Manager with Sherwin Williams Paint Company, City Manager for Glidden Paint Company, and Sales Leader for Quikrete Concrete – all where he demonstrated exceptional work ethic, strong partnerships, and a passion for success.
Member of the National World War II Museum Hall of Fame serving as an original Master Docent (touring more than 15,000 people personally), Speaking Brigade (sharing his historical knowledge with more than 30,000 people at various venues in the New Orleans community), and surpassing a milestone of more than 10,000 hours of volunteer service.
While proud of his accomplishments and contributions to the community, his greatest joys in life were spending time with his family and friends, watching a ballgame, and visiting with others. A true gentleman who loved everyone and would do anything for another.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Thursday, January 16th at 11am in the chapel of Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St.,
New Orleans, La 70119. Public visitation will begin at 10am and a graveside service will follow the Mass and take place at St. Louis Cemetery No. 3, 3421 Esplanade Ave,
New Orleans, LA 70119.
