John Misquez

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John David Misquez who left this world to be with his heavenly father on September 5, 2025 at the age of 62.
Johnny or "Misquez" as he was affectionately known to his family and friends lived a life full of energy and ambition. Born in Las Cruces in 1963, he attended Valley View Elementary and Zia Jr. High. He excelled in basketball while attending Las Cruces High School where he was a member of the class of 1981. Johnny went on to earn a bachelor's degree in business from New Mexico State University.
Shortly after earning his degree, Johnny moved to San Antonio, Texas where he lived and worked in the retail business. While there, he helped raise two sons John Jr. and Brett. After fifteen plus years in San Antonio, he returned to live in Las Cruces until his passing.
Born with a natural gift of connection, Johnny easily made friends with people from all walks of life. He was loved by many and will be sorely missed by his family, life long friends and those that got to briefly know him. His dry sense of humor was something to experience as many will recount. Johnny's positive impact in our lives will be felt for years to come until we are reunited with him one day.
Surviving him are his sons Ryan Reynolds, John Jr., Brett, Justin and daughter Heather. He leaves behind three sisters, Patricia Padilla (Michael), Sarah Avellone, Frances Misquez and two brothers Rudy (Pam) and Eddie (Cathy). Many nieces, nephews and cousins will also mourn his passing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Bertha Misquez and his son Cole.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10 am on Thursday October 23, 2025 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral 1240 S. Espina in Las Cruces. The rosary will begin his services followed by the mass. His cremains will be placed in the IHM columbarium following the mass. A luncheon will then be held at 12 pm at Finley Hall located on the grounds of IHM. All are welcomed to attend. Please bring your stories and memories of Johnny with you to share.
