Biography: Dr. John Malcolm (Mack) Moore Jr., 87, of Little Rock, died February 8
following a short illness. He practiced medicine for over 43 years
and served as a flight surgeon with the United States Air Force.
A native of Arkadelphia and a proud graduate of Arkadelphia High
School, Mack graduated from the University of Arkansas in
Fayetteville. He was a member of the varsity golf team and president
of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity where he made lifelong friends.
After completing his undergraduate studies, he earned his medical
degree from UAMS where he also completed residencies in surgery and
urology.
While participating in a rotating internship at Jackson Memorial
Hospital in Miami, Florida, Mack developed a kidney stone at age 26.
The doctor who treated him inspired Mack to become a urologist where
he could combine both of his medical interests: surgery and
personalized patient care for people of all ages and from all walks of
life.
In 1970 he joined Dr. James Headstream, Dr. Johnson Baker and
Dr. Charles Logan in the practice of urology at Urology Associates.
In 2000 Urology Associates merged with other groups to form
Arkansas Urology.
Mack was a gifted surgeon but he was also gifted in his ability to
explain and help others understand medical issues they were facing.
Throughout his life and career, he inspired and mentored many others.
His patients and their families became his friends. Mack's life was
enriched through his many friends and interests and in turn he
enriched the lives of countless others.
In 2015 he received the James Headstream Memorial Award from the
Arkansas Urologic Society.. In 2021 during the celebration of the 25th
anniversary of Arkansas Urology, the Dr. Mack Moore Health
Fund was established honoring his years of medical service including
the fight against prostate cancer.
He was a longtime active member of Pulaski Heights United Methodist
Church; past chair of the Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation; past
chair of the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory Board and served on the
Arkansas Racing Commission.
Mack was a member and past president of the Country Club of Little
Rock where he pursued his love for golf and enjoyed the fellowship
with family and friends. In 2012 he was inducted in the Arkansas
State Golf Hall of Fame.
He was predeceased by his parents John Malcolm Moore Sr and Jewell
Kinard Moore. He is survived by his wife of over 59 years, Barbara
Goad Moore; their two sons John Malcolm Moore III and his wife, Amanda
and Michael Moore; three grandchldren John Malcolm Moore IV; Andrew

The True Gentleman:
"The True Gentleman is the man whose conduct proceeds from good will
and an acute sense of propriety, and whose self-control is equal to
all emergencies, who does not make the poor man conscious of his
poverty, the obscure man of his obscurity, or any man of his
inferiority or deformity; who is himself humbled if necessity compels
him to humble another, who does not flatter wealth, cringe before
power, or boast of his own possessions or achievements, who speaks
with frankness but always with sincerity and sympathy, whose deed
follows his word; who thinks of the rights and feelings of others,
rather than his own and who appears well in any company, a man with
whom honor is sacred and virtue safe."

Dr. Moore had the kindest heart and the warmest hugs every time I saw him! I will cherish the memories of he and my dad (Ron Roach) playing many golf tournaments together and the friendship that I know they are continuing now in heaven! My thoughts and prayers of comfort and peace are with his family and all that knew and loved him!

I was a patient of Dr Moore´s from 1980 until he retired - in fact he told me several times I was his "last patient." He helped me through some difficult times. He was straightforward yet kind and supportive. I still think of him often. He leaves a tremendous legacy, best summed up by this very true assessment in the obituary: "He was also gifted in his ability to explain and help others understand medical issues they were facing."

The True Gentleman was written for men like Dr. Moore! I knew him as my doctor as well as being a fellow member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He always had a smile and treated you as if you were the most important person he knew. His bedside manner was second to none and I always had confidence that he would take care of me. He was the best! Rest in peace brother! Phi Alpha! Larry Levy
