WINSTED
MORGAN - John F. Morgan, 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 10, 2023 with his son John by his side. He was the loving husband of the late Phyllis Morgan for 45 years. Born June 28, 1930 in Winsted, he was the son of the late Thomas and Veronica (Joyce) Morgan.
John, known by many as "Jack", proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. In 1956, he started his employment with SNET. In 1972, he was elected Executive Vice President of the CT Union of Telephone Workers and continued that role until his retirement in 1991. He was quite proud of his testimony before Congress, especially on ERISA and revisions to the Communications Act of 1934. He was also appointed by Governor Ella T. Grasso as a Member of the Board of CT Colleges and then by Governor William T. O'Neil as a Member of the Board of CT Universities.
John was very involved in the Winsted Community devoting much of his time to innumerable Boards such as the Democratic Town Committee and Economic Development and volunteering for the Volunteer Fire Department. He was a life-long communicant of St. Joseph Church as well as a Member of the Knights of Columbus for 73 years, also serving on its Board of Directors. John enjoyed cooking meals at the Knights for various functions. He was a founding member of the ROMEO Luncheons for "Retired Old Men Eating Out". He was a genuinely curious man and an avid reader.
He is survived by his son, John P. Morgan of Winsted; his daughter, Jacqueline C. Hall and her husband Gregory of Denver, Colorado; and grandson, Morgan Hall of Vancouver, British Colombia. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Morgan and sister, Jean Torson.
A Wake, A Mass of Christian Burial and Burial will be announced shortly when the parish is available after renovations. Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street, Winsted has care of the arrangements. Visit an online guestbook at montano-shea.com.
