John "Jack" Rick, Jr., 87, of Hamilton Township, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 21, 2024, in the Serenity Hospice Unit of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton.
Jack was a life-long resident of the Trenton area. He and his wife settled in Hamilton 20 years ago. He graduated from Trenton Catholic Boys High School, Class of 1954. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Commerce from Rider College in 1966. Jack followed in his father's footsteps, working as an accountant. He worked for the State of New Jersey and the Diocese of Trenton. The majority of his career was spent at Mercer County Community College, from where he retired in 2001. He also had his own accounting practice serving many local small businesses.
Jack's greatest passion was his family. He loved watching sports, especially baseball and college football. When his grandchildren were young, Jack "Pop" never missed a game or school event. He loved classic country music; he and his wife, Pat, took a special trip together to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. He proudly served on the finance committee at Locust Hill when he and Pat lived there. His family, friends, and former colleagues will miss his dry sense of humor and quick wit.
Predeceased by his parents, Mary Gorman Rick and John J. Rick Sr.; his mother-in-law, Helen "Nana" Reeves and his brother-in-law, John Rugarber. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 66 years, Patricia Reeves Rick; his daughter and son-in-law, Erin and David Shea of Cranbury; his grandson, granddaughter-in-law, and great-granddaughter, Ryan, Jenna, and Grace Shea of Bordentown; his granddaughter, Meghan Shea of Alexandria, VA; his son and daughter-in-law, John III and Sheila Rick of Dunellen and their daughters, Tracy Kasper and Kelli Petroni; his sister, Marianne Rugarber, of Hamilton; his sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Pat McManimon of Ewing, as well as his nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
Jack's family is grateful for the care he was provided over the past several years at Volante, formerly Homestead, Assisted Living.
A Memorial Gathering for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ. A Memorial Service will immediately follow, beginning at 4:00 p.m. Cremation will be held privately.
