John K Rigas, a cherished father, and a dedicated husband, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025. Born on June 29, 1945, in Athens, Greece, John's journey was one marked by resilience, love, and a passion for life.
The son of Konstantinos and Stamatina Rigas, John grew up in the historic city of Athens, where he completed his education. His early years in Greece instilled in him a strong sense of duty and service, which he carried throughout his life. John proudly served in the Greek Navy and later in the Merchant Marines, experiences that shaped his character and work ethic.
John moved to the United States in 1970 after marrying his wife Eileen. They first lived in Dorchester, MA., then settled in Quincy for 26 years, and for the past 24 years have been residing in
Canton, MA. It was in the United States where he found his calling in entrepreneurship. The John Rigas Company, a dry cleaning equipment business, was not only a testament to his business acumen but also a reflection of his dedication to providing for his family and serving his community.
John's life was enriched by his loving wife, Eileen M. Rigas, with whom he shared countless cherished moments. Together, they raised two children, Joanna (Rigas) Calvin and Konstantinos Rigas, who were the pride and joy of his life. Joanna and her husband Willie of Pembroke brought him further joy through their children, Jack, Isabella, Charlie, and Brendan Sawyer. His son Konstantinos expanded the family's happiness with his children, Yannis and Niko Rigas. John's role as a grandfather was one he cherished deeply, and the memories created with his grandchildren will be held close to their hearts forever.
John is survived by his devoted brother, Emilios Rigas and his wife Anastasia of Centerville, MA, their children, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Konstantinos & Stamatina, and his brother, the late Demetrios Rigas. His family was a cornerstone of his existence, and John's guidance, love, and laughter will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
A man of many interests, John relished the simple pleasures of fishing and boating. His love for the water was evident in the joy he found summering at his house on Lake Winnipesaukee. There, he created a haven for his family and friends, a place where laughter echoed, and life's moments were savored.
John lived a life full of purpose, love, and adventure. His legacy is one of devotion to his family, service to his country, and a spirit that will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will be treasured, and his presence deeply missed. John's life story is a testament to the enduring power of love and the profound impact one person can have on the lives of many.
