John Savage Obituary

John was a proud Vietnam Veteran. He was a member of the 1st Calvary Division of the United States Army. He was also a longtime member of the John P. McKeon AmVets Post 146 in Dorchester.
John's family wishes to acknowledge the West Roxbury VA Medical Center for their care and compassion towards John at the end of his life.
Visiting hours in the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre St., West Roxbury, on Friday, March 8th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Followed by a Funeral Service at 7:00pm. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment Private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation, PO Box 40726 Nashville, TN 37204 or www.garysinisefoundation.org

The Deer Hunter, where he portrayed a soldier with dignity and grace after being resigned to a wheel chair. That grace and dignity, whether fictionalized or in person, which I never had the privilege of doing so, I'm sure the role he played in real life and in the Deer Hunter are synonymous. His character runs deep in his legacy of family. My intuition is that he had an understanding of how to play the role of a wounded soldier.
