John Schweger Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hansen Family Funeral and Cremation Services - Green Bay from Jan. 9 to Jan. 16, 2026.
John Neal Schweger

Pardon My Dust. Yes, after 82 years, I move on to the next phase with my death on December 28, 2025.

It was such a wonderful journey and embraced so many people, events, and special loves.

I wish to thank my parents, Carolyn and Earl Schweger, for my wonderful childhood and life from the date of my birth 22 May 1943 in Shawano, Wisconsin, until the time of their passing.

They provided the foundation of a good life and supported me through any rough times with their love and compassion. I was so fortunate to have amazing grandparents, whom I loved so much and two brothers, Paul and Charles Schweger. Brother Paul was a special influence of strength and goodness with his physical difficulties. Brother Charles provided two lovely nieces to my family. My life was further full-filled by my Godchild Caroline Alvarez becoming as my very own daughter. Being gay, I was never married, but had three long-term meaningful relationships and so many wonderful special friends who enlightened my life.

After a childhood in Clintonville and Green Bay, Wisconsin, graduation from Preble High School was in 1961 and then UWGB.

High School Reunion efforts renewed so many wonderful friendships with classmates in my later years and I had college classmates who were uniquely special in my life.

I was fortunate to be trained as an Orderly at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico while my parents resided there and fell in love with the culture, arts, and climate of Northern New Mexico.

This area always remained as a particular love of mine and led me to speaking Spanish and widening my life to embrace the Latino people.

Dallas, Texas became my home in 1965 and for 31 years I was employed at Rockwell International (Collins Radio). This career made possible much travel to Hawaii, England, and France in addition to introducing me to many parts of the United States. I was fortunate to retire at 55. The employment also allowed me to partake in the special enjoyment of my life by singing with the Dallas Opera and the opportunity to do much theatre and stage work in a large-city venue. Quite an experience. Having studied opera at the University of Wisconsin and voice privately, the operatic theatre and music remained to the end of my days as the one sure refreshment for my spirit.

Returning to Green Bay in 1999, I was able to assist my parents in their later years and reconnect with so many old friends and continue to enjoy the love of my cats, Dino coming with me from Dallas, and tuxedo cats, Toby, Waldo, and B.C. It is a joy to have pets in your life as their love is so unconditional and it heals to return that love.

A small Graveside Service is planned at the lovely country-side Forest Home Cemetery in Wittenberg, Wisconsin, on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 10:30 A.M. where I am amongst my Parents, Grandparents, and other relatives. Back to the roots of my family.

A Celebration of Life and Memorial Gathering will follow at a place to be determined in Green Bay to reminisce on wonderful memories with cherished friends and family. The details of the place and time will follow.

Thank you all so very much for any part you played in my life and existence. Until later, John.
