John (Jack) W. Somerville, age 80, architect and Green Bay native, passed away peacefully at his home in Ashwaubenon on February 19, 2022, with family members present. Jack was born August 12, 1941, and graduated from East Green Bay High School in 1959. He initially attended Carroll College and graduated from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, with a degree in architecture. Upon graduation he worked in Madison for a few years before joining his father's architectural firm, Somerville Associates, in 1969, to oversee the construction of an office building in England. During his career at Somerville Associates, he provided design services for several local organizations, including Bellin Hospital, Oneida Casino, Independent Printing, Green Bay Packaging, The Boys and Girls Club of Green Bay, the Marinette CourtHouse addition, and the Somerville Associates office building on Riverside Drive, as well as, Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame renovation. Somerville Associates designed the original Lambeau Field stadium and participated in one of the later renovations. Jack was named president of Somerville Associates in May 1996, retired in 2006, and was on the Board of Directors until December of 2021.
Jack was an avid boater spending many weeks every year on his boat in Door County and traveling across Lake Michigan. He loved to travel and, being a photography enthusiast, proudly portrayed many of his photographs throughout his house.
Jack is survived by his two sons, Ian Somerville and Devin (Shelley) Somerville, his special niece Amie Sell and many other nieces and nephews, his brother, Joel (Sue) Somerville, his partner Mary Lohuis of Jackson, Wyoming, and his former wife, Linda Somerville. He was preceded in death by his parents, John E. and Ruth W. Somerville, and his brother Stephen V. Somerville.
A memorial for Jack is scheduled for March 26, 1:00pm to 4:00 at Cotter Funeral home on Webster Ave in De Pere.
