John (Jack) Sowle, 87, of Boyne City, formerly Mount Pleasant, peacefully passed away surrounded by his children on January 1, 2025.
Jack was born to the late Harold and Bernice Sowle in Mount Pleasant, MI on January 22, 1937.
In high school Jack met Judy Slattery, the love of his life. They spent over 60 joyous years together loving, laughing and sharing not only a deep appreciation for one another but also for their 4 children, extended family and friends.
After graduating high school from Sacred Heart Academy, Jack spent two years in the United States Army Reserve before being honorably discharged in 1958. He attended Central Michigan University where he graduated with a bachelor's degree. Jack then entered the workforce holding an array of sales and marketing jobs as well as co-owner of the Cabin Tavern for a few years. Jack and his wife Judy moved to Florida in 1989 where he started his own landscaping business which he ran with his sons for many years before eventually moving back to Michigan in 2006. Jack always had a strong work ethic which was reflected in his lasting relationships with his customers who all thought of him fondly.
Jack was an athlete, he is a member of the athletic hall of fame at Sacred Heart Academy for his accomplishments in Basketball, he earned honors in Football and Baseball as well. He loved cheering on the Central Michigan Chippewas in all sports. Jack enjoyed golfing in his younger years, keeping current with the news, a nice nap on the patio and spending quality time with his children and grandchildren.
