John H. Stevens, a respected mechanical engineer and devoted family man, passed away on August 11, 2025, at the age of 91 in Commerce, Georgia. Born on October 13, 1933, in Tybee Island, Georgia, John lived a life rich with achievement and integrity.

Graduating with a Mechanical Engineering degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology, John dedicated his professional life to the field, serving as a mechanical engineer with ITT Grinnell. His passion for engineering was paralleled by a strong commitment to technical excellence, which left a lasting impact on his colleagues and the projects he undertook throughout his esteemed career.

In addition to his professional pursuits, John served his country with valor in the United States Navy, where he distinguished himself as a Navy Seal. His military service shaped him into a person of strong character, discipline, and unwavering commitment to those around him.

John was a man of faith, a devoted member of the Sunrise Community Baptist Church of Petal, Mississippi. His beliefs guided him in all aspects of life, fostering a deep connection to his community and those within it.

He is survived by his son, Doug (Shawanna) Stevens, stepson, Mike Joiner and his cherished grandchildren, Braxton Stevens, Keagan Stevens, Graham Joiner and Colby Hettler. They were his pride and joy, and he took great delight in their lives and accomplishments.

John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nannett Butler Stevens; his father, Marion Hodges Stevens; his mother, Carrie Fowler Livingston; and his sister, Delores Stevens. His legacy is remembered fondly by those who knew and loved him.

As we reflect on John's life, we remember a man who exemplified dedication, faithfulness, and love. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends, a testament to a life well-lived.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Sunrise Baptist Church with interment to follow in Forrest Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12:30 p.m.
