John Strom

John Strom, 72, of Beloit, WI, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Cedar Crest Health Care Center in Janesville after a short illness.
He was born on October 1, 1952 in Wausau, WI, the son of Lloyd and Stella (Mondroski) Strom. John was a 1970 Beloit Memorial High School graduate. He married Patricia Basford on August 19, 1972 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, together they shared 52 years of cherished love and life experiences.
John was a four year U.S. Navy veteran serving in the aviation group as Aircrew Survival Equipment specialist / parachute rigger, petty officer 2nd class at the Naval Air Development Center in Warminster, PA, where he packed repacked parachutes and ejection seat pans for A3 Skywarrior, A4 Skyhawk, F4 Phantom Jets, plus P3, C117, and C121 prop aircraft. John also trained civilian contractors in aircrew parachute and survival techniques. He worked a few years at Bud Weiser Motors as a certified master technician. John later retired from OMC/BRP in 2020, after 44 years of employment, over 30 years as the Inspection Quality Supervisor.
His many hobbies included planes, trains, automobiles, RVing, and model railroading. John was a handyman and liked to build model cars, airplanes, and enjoyed auto restoration. He could often be found watching Indycar races. John enjoyed spending time at numerous flea markets. He liked trap shooting and was a member of the Beloit Rifle Club.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; son, Steven (Brenda); sister, Sharon; brother, Alan; sister-in-law, Barb Basford; several nieces and nephews; grand dog, Piper; extended family, Patrick Meyer, and other "Meyer Rascals".
John was predeceased by his parents; sister, Susan; in-laws, Robert and Mercedes Basford; brothers-in-law, Robert and Richard Beaudin.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Cedar Crest, Agrace Hospice, and Dr. Nabrinsky for the excellent care given to John.
