John F. Touhey passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at his home. Hiis loving husband of 44 years, Dr. Michael Prediger, was at his side. John was 83 years old.
Son of the late Robert J. and Margaret A. Touhey of Binghamton, NY, John graduated from King's College and Temple University with additional studies at Columbia University. Following a career in education, where his last position was Director of Library/Media services at Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, John was a managing owner of the Sergeantsville Inn and the owner/chef of The Little White House in Frenchtown, NJ.
In 1991, John became an Assistant to the Commissioner of Commerce in New Jersey, where he developed and directed a state run and supported Consortium for certifying small businesses to ISO 9000, an international standard for quality in business procedures and practices. Several hundred businesses benefitted from this program.
Following retirement in 1999, John, with the great cooperation of other residents, re-established the Solebury Township Historical Society. John served as the organization's president for 5 years and chaired Solebury Township's 300th Anniversary Celebration. John was also a member of the township's Historical Architectural Review Board Committee which he chaired for 7 years. He was also a dedicated volunteer at the New Hope-Solebury Free Public Library and the Doylestown Hospital.
John was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and Richard and his sister-in-law Margaret Prediger Knaub and Cynthia Prediger. In addition to his husband, Michael, he is survived by his "sisters" Mary Lou Touhey and Anna B., McCoy; his godson Ben Zazzara; his 11 nieces and nephews, his cherished friends and cousins and his beloved canine children Wren, the Irish Lass, and Poppy Cockapoo.
A celebration of John's life will be scheduled for a later date.
